OK so making 'The Memphis Blues' as our national anthem - I do like that. Pork chops are free - again I like it. So when did Barrack change his name from Rufus and when did Guantanamo Bay become his first issue instead of pork chops? Wow this movie is almost historic in significance now. It is rude and racist but please look how far we finally came as a country. Thank God almighty we are free at last and yes Rufus you too can be president and we are all glad you are. (at least I am)

My son's nickname is "President Rufus Jones." He has been bossy and spoiled since he was born. This is an old "Negro" short film originally shown in only small theatres catering to African Americans. Absolutuely cute dreamscape/fantasy movie. These old films paved the way for today's African American Holywood films and stars. Sammy D's father and uncles played major roles in his rise to stardom. Rev Sharpton, eulegized Michael J, & began preaching at age 4! He used to sing with Mahalia Jackson.

This is incredible. Thank you so much for posting it. It makes me glad I came of age after the civil rights movement was mostly complete. The talent is incredible, but the "coon" aspects are a little disturbing. It was made when the idea of a Black president was beyond incredible. Thanks again. Sammy made the way for Michael, and Michael made the way for Usher and so many others.

This is one of the special features on the "The Green Pastures" DVD. Also included is "An All Colored Vaudeville Show" featuring the VERY young Nicholas Brothers.

While the movie has a Definite racist content (pork chops for votes, a senate that seemed to be pulled from Birth of a nation etc.) It also displayed some absolutely stellar talent. As for the racism, It can be easily laughed off and ignored so long as it is kept in it's proper context (It was the 30's after all and there were considerably worse things going on). When I first saw the film I laughed my ass off and frankly I still do
Thank you for posting it. Sammy Davis Rocked the house down!!!!
