At the cabin/house we rented this past summer in Northern Wisconsin, our kids watched a baby bald eagle drop from its nest (which was probably a couple hundred feet high). It rested on a small fir tree that was really not sturdy enough to hold the weight of this large "baby" bird. The kids came and got us adults, I got my camera and zoomed in close enough to get a video right before it tried to fly into the neighbor's window. Soon after, it took off and rested in several other trees during the day. The next day as we packed to head home, it was gracefully flying around with it's mother. Very cool!

@LostinNPR i take it you've never been to northern wisconsin before. there's literally a nest in about 1 out of 100 trees.
