I wrote this as if I was Lincoln, extrapolating his thoughts before, after, and during the Gettysburg Address. We need to return to our founders' thoughts if we are going to rebuild our nation. We need to remember what they did, so that we could have this nation. We need to never forget their sacrifice and we need to charge ahead with the full measure of OUR devotion, to save our nation from perishing under the weight of the government.

  • Good job. I liked the way you presented Lincoln's thoughts and the way you did the Address. Keep up the good work. You might even consider teaming up with a Lincoln presenter and being the young Abe Lincoln. There are some good stories and lessons from his early life that people need to hear. We need more young Abes. We might even sign you up with The Association of Lincoln Presenters.

  • @jeAbemansfield I would love to do that! Where are you guys located in the country? Can you PM me? Thanks.

  • Lincoln was for big government during his day. Not allowing secession, high tariffs, subsidizing large businesses. and shipping blacks back to Africa with taxpayer money.

  • @IndividualAutonomy That's disputable. While it seems like he was for big government in that sense, he was really for united government. Some good things and some bad things came out of the Civil War. Some of the bad things were an increase in the size of the federal government, but some of the good things include what was discussed in the Gettysburg Address--a recognition that without unity, our country falls. After all, if states can secede, they might as well be countries.

  • LOL! Yeah, I agree. I figure, he was president. I'm sure he could get a piece of paper from an aide at any time, including while riding a train. But it's a cool myth.

    :P

It is one of America's greatest examples of what we are! And I think the poem and the idea of doing it from the perspective of Lincoln is really cool!

  • @RogCBrand I know I've written plenty of good ideas on the back of napkins. But I'm not sure if paper napkins even existed back then...

Anyway. The Gettysburg Address means so much for America--it actually tells our entire struggle, not just the Civil War. Those before us who have consecrated America have added more than we ever can--and it is our responsibility as the living to be dedicated to America and freedom.

Lincoln's comment about his speech at the end is very telling of his humility

  • @starfleetofficer1 LOL! You're right! If he did, it would have been a linen napkin!

And you're right about the Gettysburg Address and just how important it was- when you have a great president- like Lincoln- putting into words just what our nation is about, that is a great thing!

And that's another good thing about Lincoln- he had backbone and wasn't wishy-washy, and didn't back down from a fight, but he was not in the least arrogant! He did what he felt was best for the country!

  • @starfleetofficer1

Well that is why they were states, not provinces. Early on they were like their own nations. watch?v=BC-QfZd6T9Y Anyway I am not as libertarian I was before. The question is unity at what cost?
