My dad bought one of these new right out of the showroom in 1968. He put in after-market Sears A/C. It was handed down to me in 1973. Aqua w/ black vinyl top. Best thing about these old boats? You could see all the corners of the vehicle and didn't have to guess where the front and back ends of your car were!
@RadioCarino I just picked up (not too long ago) a 1973 Fury III hardtop coupe in good condition. It has the 318 2 barrel too. I bought a 400 big block that i'm building up for it right now, but I can tell the 318 was a reliable motor to say the least. When I got the car (for 1,000 dollars cash) the key was broken in half inside the ignition and it had been sitting for a year. As soon as I fixed that problem, it started right up for me. :)
@RadioCarino Wow that kind of gas mileage out of a tank not bad just think what an EFI kit and a 4 speed automatic trans would get you! A more reliable car better performance & MPG and still would have the cool factor !
My first Fury III was a 4dr Hardtop. My buddy laughed at me when I brought it home, he had a '65 Impala Super Sport, a hot car. But, whenever the 6 of us wanted to go out guess what car we took. I had the 318 in that one too. My current Fury has a 383 and it the 2dr Hardtop. It's allot of fun to drive. I can't see just polishing the fenders, you gotta get behind the wheel and run it.
I own a 1968 Plymouth Fury III......a 4 door hardtop..... 318 v8.... 62K orig miles....I should put a quick video of it up here.....anyway...this car on the open road...when properly tuned and driven....will get over 20 miles per gallon....I have gotten as much as maybe 22 or 23..... I will confess around town, probably about 15.....but this is not worse than any SUV of today.
I plan on running this engine for 200,000 miles. I bought it 3 yrs ago with 19K orig miles, and now I have 62K
@lilredrunningshoe Explain how a carburetor vaporizes the fuel better and distributes its more evenly than SFI. Answer that and I'll believe you. If these carburetors got such good fuel economy then why aren't they used now when fuel economy is most important?
@wsimpson86 - I know more about mechanics and how to drive for efficiency than you will ever know. I have had MANY older cars, and you must be some dumb stupid brain washed American if you think anything different than what i said. You want to argue? I’ll argue all damn night if that's what you want. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR-I DO KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT! And for your information there has been carbs back in the 70's that made these old cars get over 100 miles to the gallon; guess what happened
@DNoiser1 NEW cars,,, ALL NEW cars are "programed" to be 'guzzlers',,,,, these cars were BETTTER on gas, IF you drove them correctly. Any car can be a guzzler if you keep the throttle open all the time!
I LOVE 68 PLymouths, and yours is very sweet! Mine was a 4dr,,, but still so fun to drive! This was my most favorite car to drive!
And just because it's big,,, dumb people think it's a gas guzzler... I could get over 30 miles per gallon with mine!!! And still had over 230 horse power with a 318.
