IBM unveiled its new server system Monday - the Power 7. The system will be tailored for specific projects such as running complex financial analysis or electrical grids. The system will run four times faster than it's predecessor.
IBM's launch is aimed to help it hold it's position as number one in software development, just as rival Oracle Corp enters the market. Global sales of high end servers are estimated at 14 billion dollars for 2010. IBM held 40 percent of that market in the third quarter, followed by Hewlett Packard holding 27 percent, IBM held 40 percent of that market in the third quarter, followed by Sun Microsystems with 26 percent.
