Complete history of shotokan legend - Frank Brennan. This guy did more for British karate than anyone else in recent history. He beat the best of all the other styles, and with modesty and dignity. Great all roounder, and a nice guy.

Enoeda Sensei Broke Frank Smith's jaw with a mawashi geri in Nishiyama's dojo indeed. But Frank went easy with the jap in the fight. NISHIYAMA'S ORDER.

@guilhermecomes - Now seeing as though you were not even born when Enoeda battered Smith, you're clearly going off hear-say. I have spoken to someone who was there at the time, and Smith went for Enoeda head on, as he had previously done with another JKA champion. Enoeda simply mauled him. Seriously guilhermecomes, could you really imagine Nishiyama instructing one of his students to take it easy on the then JKA kumite champion..!

Why isn't Frank Smith of the JKA mentioned or shown on any videos? He was supposedly the best competitor on the tournament circuit in the 70's.

@Taimak77 - well Frank was certainly good, but by the time Enoeda thrashed him at Nisihyama's dojo, he went rather quiet. Also, you will have noticed that this programme is about Frank Brennan.

Non-karate people who are big fans of MMA fighting will never understand why we in karate do not care to sustain life long injuries the way the cage fighters seem to. Why should we suffer from serious spinal and joint problems that come with MMA, when we can do traditional karate and continue to train and enjoy it throughout our lives.

@Shinkyu42 and that right there will always be our downfall unfortunately. People do not understand how you can "claim to fight" yet not step into a ring. There is such a vast difference in the reasons why karateka do not always step into a ring to fight as MMA fighters, but those who do not train it will never understand and there's no reason to try to convince them otherwise. They think it's a way to prove you're a badass. I don't need to prove it to anyone, i already know i am :)

Frank's a legend in karate. I know him myself, he's amazing, im going to a training course with him in a month, cant wait, its really amazing to train with a master.

'When I was young many karateka blocked with their face lol.Yeah you get out the way lol.I got a standing ovation from Sensei Enoeda something I ve never forgotton and still inspires me today....somewhat 12 years later.
