Arbace: Jeffrey Francis
conductor: Roger Norrington/Camerata Salzburg & Salzburg Bachchor (Salzburg Festival 2003)
as SDCmorg wrote: "If you enjoy this, buy the M22 DVD. It is one of the best recordings of this opera."
Se colà ne' fati è scritto, Arbace's aria from Idomeneo
Se colà ne' fati è scritto,
Creta, oh Dei! s'è rea, or cada.
Paghi il fio del suo delitto,
Ma salvate il prence, il re.
Deh d'un sol vi plachi il sangue,
Ecco il mio, se il mio v'aggrada,
E il bel regno che già langue,
Giusti Dei! abbia mercè.
Unhappy Sidon, what gloomy aspects of
destruction, horror and death do I see in you?
Ah, you are no longer Sidon,
you are the city of tears and this palace
that of sorrow! ... Then does heaven
deny us all pity? ... Who knows? I still hope
that some friendly god
will be satisfied with so much blood; a single god
could save us from all this. Severity
would yield to clemency ... But as yet I do not know
who would look on us with pity ... Ah, heaven is deaf!
I see all Crete ending
her glory deep in ruins!
No, ere this her miseries will not be ended!
Fabulous! I knew Jeff a thousand years ago when he was a staff member at church camp. He called himself "Frenchie" at that time. :)

En las operas de mozart, hasta el rapto del serrallo, es normal cambiar el orden de las arias porque dependen de la adaptacion escenica y de las condiciones del teatro.

maybe this is a weird production. The one i love is Luc Bondy's from la Scala.

I watched this opera about 6 or 7 times, when I worked as hallservant at the Salzburg Festival in 2006.
The performance was very good, the singers, the orchestra and the conductor excellent but in my opinion the production (meaning the stag/set) was one of the worst I've ever seen (which becomes usual in Salzburg and all arround europe) but maybe that's because I like conservative and old-fashioned settings. Anyway great singing.
