  • The ATA (WTTU) has changed since the 90's, sparring i don't think is as good as it used to be: i mean they are now using WTF full contact gear + regular light contact gear for point fights; the less gear the better, imo. That is why ATA sparring looks slower, and possibly a de-emphasis on conditioning too. I studied WTF tae kwon do (KTA in Korea) that was fast and fun but because the techniques are very simply by comparison - 70% dollyo-chagi. But the Songahm forms are still the best.

  • So true... But there have been rumors flying around that they want to start a full-contact sparring thing. And it is very true the excessive amount of gear slows you down. I do WTF taekwondo too and it is so much faster. But the WTF forms are very simple in comparison to ATA forms.

  • i used to take ATA but it suck i take karatejutsu its way better believe me its a fact

  • I also do WTF (Olympic-style sparring)....

    Just saying... *[^_^]*

  • Wtf tkd is better

  • @123andOCHO heck yes the gear restricts so much

  • I like full contact sparring were u don't stop after time you score a point I like it when it ends if the time is up or there is a KO

  • i live by lynnwood and i want to take taekwondo class. i heard that Master Cho's ATA Black Belt academy and Taekwondo (karate-kids) are both yours. i want to ask you which one should i attend. and im 13. thanks

  • wow hmmmmmm.. well ata has already began a full contact sparring segment on the east coast. and its also for amai students i study both.

  • @nq2f You're right here, it teaches you flexibility and stamina but actual street fighting, no. I've done kajukembo (there's a fun one for the street techniques) and it's like night and day, the kicks are useful but only if you're strong enough to use them and are quick with them, otherwise they're a waste of time.

  • @savage24x then your an idiot

  • for show and demo only. bring it to the street, and they are totally useless!

  • In my school weve had guys coming from WTF and ITF training with us... from STF (songahm style). And the only guys who would realy match us are the ITF ones. They are impressive... and think taekwondo the way we do. But I believe they have some advantages, such as their sparring rules and less gear, which makes you stronger by taking the hits.

WTF is fast, yes it is, but also vey predictible since they use only a few tecniques during the sparring, and can't take a punch to the stomach...

  • haaa, tesão. agora só falta vir pro Brasil lutar aqui. é da minha categoria ainda. ia rolar umas lutas bem boas por aqui. parabéns !
