  • So did Sue ever figure out which house her mom grew up in? Was it still there? (My guess it was somewhere in the first couple of blocks of Stanton Blvd., after coming up the hill.)

-- a former resident and genealogist who enjoyed seeing your footage through Whitehall & Montague :)

  • @jilliemc On the internet, Sue found the 1930 Census (done in early April 1930). They lived in Muskegon Country, Montague Village. The “Ward of City” was shown as “North Hill”. Sue had called the Muskegon Historical Society and someone there thought Stanton Blvd had been referred to as North Hill, so that’s where we looked.

  • @jilliemc

Sue’s grandmother (her mother’s mother) died in 1926 in Nebraska and her father, Ralph E. Williams, remarried and moved to Montague sometime between 1926 and 1930. His new wife, Grace Cooley Williams, was from that area. He owned some sort of a store in downtown Montague.

  • @jilliemc He and Grace were killed in a car accident in January 1936 on US-31. We found her grave in the cemetery in Montague. From what we understand, he is buried in Muskegon, but we have not yet determined which cemetery.

After her father and Grace were killed, Sue’s mother moved back to Nebraska to be raised with other relatives.

  • @jilliemc Sue is still searching for more information and hopes to return to the Muskegon/Montague area again. Maybe you may have more information? It's great to hear from you, thanks!

  • @jilliemc There wasn't enough room to type one message, it looks like one has to read from the bottom up in my replies. we didn't know which house it was, but sure would like to find out.

Thank you for the comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the “tour” of Montague and Whitehall. Montague is a beautiful little town.

We do not know which house it was. Sue’s mom passed away 30 years ago, and that was her first time in Montague.
