Data from energy consultancy MJ Ervin & Associates showed the average price of regular gas at $1.035 a litre, up 0.3 cent from a week earlier.

On Tuesday, crude oil was selling for just under $80 U.S. a barrel, nearly doubling the $40 a barrel that it cost a year ago. At that time, the average Canadian gas price was just under 86.2 cents a litre, according to Calgary-based MJ Ervin.

Gas prices were the same or higher this week in all but 10 of the 60 communities surveyed.

Labrador City, N.L., had the highest average gas price in the country on Tuesday, at $1.199 a litre, up 3.8 cents from the previous week.

Edmonton had the cheapest gas, at 90.9 cents a litre, down two cents.

Drivers in Sherbrooke, Que., saw the biggest increase in the average price of gas from last week, with an eight-cent jump to $1.084 a litre, while the biggest drop was 3.7 cents in Sudbury, Ont., to $1.012.

Looking at the country's biggest markets: Victoria's average gas price was unchanged at $1.028 a litre; Vancouver was up 2.7 cents to $1.139; Calgary was down 2.1 cents to 92.3 cents; Regina was unchanged at 99.9 cents; Saskatoon was flat at 99.6 cents; Winnipeg was also unchanged at 98.7 cents a litre; Toronto was down 1.1 cents to 99.8 cents; Ottawa was down 1.2 cents to 97.7; and Montreal was 2.1 cents higher at $1.131.

  • There is a way you can get all your gas or half price, Its called the Filler Up Club. I have been a member for 18 months and its good in the U.S. and Canada. You just fill up anywhere you want, keep your receipt, and then mail them in once a month. Then you get a check back for 50%. You can get complete details and see proof on my site here: MyHalfPriceGas(dot)com

  • gas prices should have stay at 79cent, it just feels right. Look I do not mind paying HST, but not for GAS. When what the last time you actually put super lead gas? no we always put regular because its a bit cheaper. If government really wants to take care of our environment, they would reduce the gas: 1 super lead is better for the car and the environment, 2 the electric cars should have exists by now...if climate change is destroying our land, blame the government for not thinking straight.
