Well the problem "normal" people in this world seem they are not enlightened is because of the Ego and what it causes (separation, illusion, lower emotions..)

Everyone and everything is pure consciousness, however, one needs to be enlightened to go beyond the Ego. That is why one needs to meditate, to diminish the Ego and to go beyond it

I googled the History of Prisons and I found this:
In Medieval and early post Medieval times the jail had been primarily used for the detention of criminals and not for the punishment of those who had done wrong. It was used to hold people awaiting trial and those found guilty and awaiting punishment. These sentences were usually corporal (whipping, flogging etc) or capital (death) and so the detention period was short. Sounds like the early forms of Christinity too. No wonder they don't work!
