  • Thanks for posting this. Great stuff. On a side note, I love hearing Ned Martin's voice during that rally. I miss him.

  • @notredamehesamighty I was at Fenway when he hit his1000th base hit.

  • "Yastremski's hit ignited a Boston rally." says John Chancellor. Ah, well, no it didn't. You see the bases were LOADED when Yaz came to the plate. Three guys got on base BEFORE he swatted his routine base hit to center.

Not saying his '67 performance wasn't terrific because it was, but the way some people lionize Yaz distorts the record. His play that season was remarkable and doesn't need to be embellished. And it wasn't all about '67... he hit .301 for the year as late as 1974.

  • Yaz spoke of his anti-union bias in his autobiography when he wrote, "I took a stand against strikes and the Curt Flood ruling."Why? Because he didn't need it. He sat down with Tom Yawkey and negotiated his private deals, bloated with cash + incentives while many of his teammate got peanuts.

He was worth every penny, but not at the EXPENSE of others. You can't deny his anti-Flood stance hurt he fellow players who had a right to work where they chose. It's called the free market.

  • I am a Teamster in the private sector. Yaz was a producer. I am a producer. The union only protects the people who don't produce, The power whiners and the ones who hide out in the bathroom, show up for work high on drugs and alcohol. The union negotiates a contract that I work hard for to not lose my job, because people that produce like me, the company would go out of business. In the old days winning a pennant provided extra cash.Take your union crap and put it where the sun don't shine.

  • Yaz played hard,

Every at bat was to send that ball out of the park.

    No steroids just potatoes.

  • Carl a "MVP', and "Triple Crown Winner".

    Any others?? Ya.

But we have some other great players in baseball.

A great game played all over the world.

You don't need to be good , but can have fun on a team.

  • The best part of the ENTIRE mini-series in my opinion.

  • Yaz sure had a swing.

I played the game but I never tried that hard.

One thing to get a hit and another to send a homer.
