Myanmar President arrives - 12th November 09

The Head of State of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe arrives in the island to further strengthen bilateral relations..
The delegation including the Myanmar President and the First Lady reached the Katunayake International Airport this afternoon. President Rajapakse and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa accorded them a state welcome. They were also accorded a 21-Gun Salute.
The Myanmar Head of State is visiting at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart to further solidify bilateral relations. He is due to visit several places of Sacred worship including the Sri Dalada Maligawa. He is also due to tour places of historic interest. A Myanmar Head of State is visiting the island only after 43 years. Parliamentarians, the Chief of Defence Staff and Chiefs of the Armed Forces and the IGP joined in the ceremony organized to welcome the visitors..
