A Baroque arrangement of Jonathan Coulton's "The Future Soon" (pardon the bad pun in the title). The parts in this arrangement are:

- Solo Oboe = Orange
- Solo Violin = Yellow (second verse only)
- Violin I = Yellow-Green
- Violin II = Blue-Green
- Viola = Blue
- Cello = Purple
- Bass = Fuschia
- Harpsicord Continuo = Not shown

More of Coulton's music (in it's original form) can be found at http://www.jonathancoulton.com. His music is licensed under the Creative Commons, so I can make things like this with fearing a lawsuit.

The audio was produced with harmony assistant (http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/harmony.htm) and synthfont (http://www.synthfont.com/), and the visualization was produced with the Music Animation Machine (MAM) (http://www.musanim.com/player/),

  • Caleb, if you haven't heard, there is a new web community that you MUST be part of called Too Much Awesome. 15 of the current 39 Song Fu Challengers are TMA and the number will grow. Consider this a formal invitation. Borba Spinotti joined just a few days ago and I was INSANELY thrilled, because he has also been doing some awesome classical arrangements of Coulton.

Caleb, this is FULL of WIN and WONDERFULNESS! I can't begin to express my joy at seeing and hearing your work here. TMA!

  • Thank you for your kind comments and the invite! Edric had mentioned TMA over on the JoCo forums, and I started to look at it, then got busy with other things. I'll take another look.

  • That was so amazing...we get the BEST musical nerd geniuses in the JoCo forums. I love seeing the notes as they played this way too. It would make a really interesting pattern in sequins on a full circle black skirt too...is there some way to get a print out of it, and in the colors used?

  • Neat idea! Unfortunately, the program I used doesn't have a print function. Anyway, it might be too long. The guy that made it described an early paper prototype that ended up being a 20 ft long scroll.

  • I missed this the first time around. Great job with the arrangement. I went to Friday's Somerville JoCo concert - he did a few new songs - with the electric band. I posted the concert on the YT channel if you want to check them out.

  • Could you do a "Monkey Shines" video similar to this one? Or would that be a "been there, done that" kind of thing? Unfortunately, I can't leave a comment on bandcamp. Wait a sec! We're facebook iPals! I'll leave a message there too!

  • Verily, it doth rock.

I love the arrangement and the visualization.

  • Great stuff. What a fun niche we have - every time you think you have mapped the last corner, it turns out to be fractal ;-)
