This piece is from the soundtrack Akumajo Dracula Best Volume 1, which has the Famicom versions of the soundtracks of the 3 NES Castlevania games. You will notice that the music here sounds different from the NES version. Personally, I prefer this version over the NES sound. At around 2:46, the music really gets pumping and makes you want to bust out a whip and slay the undead. Enjoy and comments welcome!!

  • I was one of the unfortunate people who was introduced to Castlevania far too late, so I never got a chance to own anything before SOTN. Luckily there are people like you who upload this music and people who LP them. Thanks for the upload!

  • @JupiterAdept32 You're welcome. Better late than never I guess as far as enjoying this awesome series of games. The ones before SOTN are definitely worth playing though. View SOTN as the game that basically shifted the series towards more Metroid gameplay, as they're really hasn't been a linear Castlevania game since.

  • the jap version sounds so much better...

  • Oh hell yeah it does. I got bored and did a side by side comparison of the US and Japanese versions of the game each via emulator and there was a big difference in the sound as well as the intro bit when Trevor is praying at the cross. The cross in the JP version has emanating lights from it and the US version does not. Once again, the Japanese get the superior edition. Just glad it can be played via emulator these days.

  • yep.. zelda 2 is like that too... Do you think castlevania 1 has a better sound chip too ?? (jap version)

  • I honestly haven't played the JP version of the first castlevania yet. I'll give it a go and let you know what I think about it.

  • The medleys they put together for the Akumajo Dracula Best collection are really nicely arranged. This track, for example, is a perfect slice of Castlevania; it tells a complete story from Beginning to Clear. (And of course the Famicom version of this game's soundtrack is a joy.)

Thanks for uploading this so I can share it! I like to post one YouTube link of Castlevania music to Facebook each day in October.

  • @JupiterAdept32 Its called emulation. You might want to try it

  • Very memorable tune. I can picture this track being used for the opening sequence of Bram Stoker's Dracula directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

  • oh yes sounds better, nes version sounds too smooth

  • Castlevania 3 will always be my favourite video game soundtrack. It was just flawless, fell in love with every track.

  • While the music in Super Castlevania IV is my favorite overall, there were some awesome tunes in this game, too.

The Castlevania series always had such great music back in the day. The SNES one was AMAZING. Back before they got the terrible electronic-y music on Symphony of the Night. Seriously, I don't understand why that is the quintessential Castlevania game to so many people, the games were so much better in the side-scroller platformer days...

  • best castlevania from the classic era. Better than the first, the four, and for me, even better than Rondo of blood. THAT good.
