  • @TravelwithGene Its because all of the tunes played that night were arrangements, similar to big band charts. you wouldn't expect the players in a big band to have all their music memorized would you?

  • I don't understand why such skilled musicians need to read music... Seriously, isn't jazz about improvisation and "feel"...  seems like reading music is unnecessary and would stifle creativity. Anyone know why this is.
