A song I wrote about dear old Loudoun County, Virginia.

My Loudoun County Home

Far outside the Beltway, beyond the DC suburbs I spent my younger days in Loudoun County. Near the banks of the river, Id walk with my dog Ollie and I remember I'd stay there forever. My daddy was an accountant, and he tried to keep us happy, and we'd go to church on Sunday mornin'. My mother was from Richmond, and she died when I was eleven, but she loved my music and Jesus, and I know that she's in heaven

But greedy developers came and tore up the land They drove the farmers westward and the native families ran, but I remember old Leesburg and no matter where I roam, I'll always love my Loudoun County home

In the summer I was thirteen, I got my horse Virginia, and I would ride the through the rolling hills of Loudoun county. I fell in love there, for a girl with blue eyes and blonde hair, but she fell for the rich boy in town

We moved to Egypt Farms and some folks thought we were crazy but how I loved to spend time at the Philomont General Store. And I remember the beauty of the Contoctain mountains 'round me, and I can still hear Colonel Mosby and his rangers once more

But greedy developers came and tore up the land They drove the farmers westward and the native families ran, but I remember old Leesburg and no matter where I roam, I'll always love my Loudoun County home

Yes no matter where I wander, my heart still travels yonder. To the northern Virginia hills where I spent my early childhood

And I remember old Leesburg and no matter where I roam I'll always love my Loudoun County home. Yes, I'll always love my Loudoun county home.

  • Loved It! I was born and raised in Loudoun County... I got "chased" all the way West to Wisconsin :+(

  • Thank you. I grew up in the Sterling area too. I went to Seneca Ridge Middle School.

  • I'm a Loudoun native too man! These developers have to STOP NOW! I have lived in Sterling my entire life...and more and more I think about the future of the county. You're right; there's no stopping it...but we can still put up some kind of fight!!!

  • I grew up in Sterling too. When I was a young lad of 15 we moved out to Philomont . I sure hope they dont ravage Western Loudoun like Eastern half. The line is getting blurred up there.

  • Gr8! I understand your love for Loudoun County; I too think that the developers are trying to make us into another Fairfax. Time to stop the developers!

  • Thanks. I think sadly, its too late to stop most of it. Anything Leesburg and east is swallowed up. But what we can do is preserve the old historic site such as Snickersville Turnpike, John Mosby hwy, that area. And to my delight, much of western Loudoun is still the way I remember it 15 years ago . And Oatlands and all.

  • @GoneIsGone I'm trying to get to Wisconsin..lol.don't feel bad! I'm getting chased outta here too...

  • Very nice: song and delivery.

I agree. Not good for people to live in big cities.

  • Loudoun has become maniacly expansionist in the course of the past few decades. However it really started getting bad in the early 2000's. In a matter of years, my mostly isolated rural house became surrounded by a long line of identical mini-mansion eyesores. The field where I used to explore with my friends of those summer days of yore has become a cul-de-sac .

It is such a shame that future generations will find it difficult to be able to see what made loudoun truely great.

  • Unfortunately, I am one of those that was chased westward to Jefferson County, WV and my husband's farm in Hamilton that was owned by generations of his family and ran from Paeonian Springs to the Mill in Hamilton is now just a postage stamp with big McMansion's all around it. Love this song
