I went out early in the morning of Saturday, August 8th, to catch some trains at the Amtrak station in Amsterdam, New York, along the CSX Chicago Line. Traffic was pretty busy early on, then quieted down around 11:00 due to trackwork. Lots of C40-8Ws were on the prowl since the GEVOs are having turbo charger problems. Enjoy!
Train 1- 8:18 AM
The Q117 heads through. ES44DC #5323 leads C40-8 #7612 and C40-8W #7392.
Train 2- 8:32 AM
An ex-LMS C40-8W (crappy horn) leads an eastbound stacker towards Selkirk Yard. #7758, another C40-8W, is trailing.
Train 3- 8:50 AM
Amtrak #280 arrives 5 minutes early from Niagara Falls. He'll go all the way to New York. #704 must have hit something, look at that dent!
Train 4- 9:19 AM
An eastbound manifest comes through, ES44DC #5334 and C40-8W #7394 are upfront. This train had a huge mix of loaded and empty cars.
Train 5- 9:25 AM
Another intermodal train heads for Chicago, where it will be transferred to BNSF for the ride west. Lots of foreign containers, probably headed back overseas for loading. Two AC4400CWs upfront, #440 and #556. Engineer had these babies in notch 8 and they were making the ground rumble.
Train 6- 9:50 AM
More containers head west, with another ex-CR unit, C40-8W #7303. Unfortunately, CSX put another shitty horn on it, just like the one earlier. CSX #9026 is trailing.
Train 7- 10:15 AM
Another westbound with two more C40-8Ws. This is a short loaded grain train, and it's kicking up a ton of dust! Don't know where he's going, in the 10 years I've been railfanning here, I've never seen anything like this!
Train 8- 11:01 AM
Amtrak 63, the westbound Maple Leaf, arrives nearly 20 minutes late. P42DC #193 leads it. Don't know who that kid was, but he seemed happy to see the train!
Hope you enjoyed!
I've been watching trains in good ol' Amsterdam for about 12 years now. This video is great. Are they doing construction on the station? Been a few months since I've been there.

They haven't been working on the station, but there are a bunch of boards of wood in front of it. I have no idea what they're for, but I use them to mount my tripod on. Otherwise, everything is the same. They did fix the signals; much brighter now.

Sweet, let me know what you see!

Thanks! It's just too bad that CSX gutted RS3Ls on them and threw on crappy K5LAs. Oh well, as long as they leave the paint.
