  • The PVC he was using is way to thin walled, it looks like sch 20 at best and I am sorry to say he is not very smart only a unlearned person would assume that toilet paper would make for a great blade. It looks like it is 1/8 " of an inch thick and this will not hold up at all. It does go to show us one thing and that is someone who tries this should do a little research on it before they look like a knuckle head. This is not the same material I have seen in other video's, they were using a sch80

  • @StarTrek2012 PVC of any thickness will break. If you knew anything about wind turbine blades you would definetly never use PVC .

  • Jeff I want to post this video on my site if it's ok with you. I know i have totally torqued a lot of jaws just by downing the pvc blades. some say that you need to use the green pvc and a whole lot of other suggestions. in my book the heavier the pvc the more force is created at high speeds. Good wooden blades are safer. and your raptor blades are light weight high strength quality plastic. and thin on the ends. Not much centrifugal force there. VERY SAFE!!

pvc BLADES CAN KILL! tnx 4 THE VID.

  • @muddymuddymuddmann

    sure you can use it.

    thanks,jeff

  • what kind of motor are you using?

  • to radio517

    ametek 38 volt.

  • PVC pipe becomes brittle after time, and why thousands of water taps were replaced in San Antonio.

Within 20 years they all started to go bad, and that is underground, protected from sunlight.

Yes, they were schedule 80 or better.

  • @StarTrek2012 The 6 P's of good construction ... Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. Works every time.

  • There are different types of pcv the type they are using is sch 10 and could be Cell-core which is very brittle. If you drop a length on concrete it will crack like cast iron. Also no speed brake to stop over reving.

  • @derman077 good. there was nothing really worth saving in our civilizations' epochs. Just war, war, and oh look! More war! The ones who survive (if any do) will have to do better.

  • PVC is not designed to withstand the kinds of forces present on a turbine blade like this. It doesn't matter how long the blades are in use, because they are this brittle even when they are brand new. I once made a radio antenna out of PVC pipe with wire in it, and it only lasted a short time on my roof before a good wind snapped it right off.

  • @turbineguy100 PVC is ridiculously brittle - ABS would be a better choice, but idk why anyone would put bolts through it and expect it to not crack @ those incredible RPM's and effective g forces. PVC makes a pretty nice mold material for carbon fiber or fiberglass blades though ;-)

  • Blade sets are cheap Both Missouri wind and Windy Nation sell high quality blade and hub sets. It is to much trouble to build these blade sets easier to buy these balanced units that will last a life time!

  • well, lesson learnt, i am new into wind and i thought about pvc and had concerns of blade failure... this video and comments confirmed my suspicions... thanks,
