People need to relax, yes these animals are endangered from captivity and other less natural causes, but you know what? This is probably the happiest little pygmy Loris in the world. It's treated with the love and respect it deserves. Besides, what is a zoo but captivity? What is a wild life preserve but captivity? At least this animal is in a loving home. Not saying it's right they took it from it's natural habitat but at least it's well loved and cared for.

There is a difference between captivities. An animal that is taken well care of in a facility with caretakers who know what they are doing will live as long as it does in the wild if not longer. Not so much for pets, where the owners may love the animal but they usually do not know what they are doing and are keeping the animal in poor stressful situations with improper care, then you'll see the lifespan plummet.

I don't think it makes much sense to insist that they are wild animals, as if that's some kind of barrier to them being pets, because all kinds of other lemurs have often accept humans and have interesting voluntary interaction and play with them.

There's also a lot of incorrect information about the slow loris floating around, such as claims that they die quickly in captivity. The Duke Lemur center reports lifespans as long as in the wild for their breeding population.

"Every time you buy one of these endangered creatures, you put money into the hands of a person who will stalk these creatures in their forest homes at night and kidnap them"

That's not necessarily true. The pygmy slow loris breeds successfully in captivity, and when bred it's apparently not necessary to pull their teeth. They probably could be very nice pets if it wasn't for their odd diet requirements - at least for people who aren't allergic to their venom.

Every time you buy one of these endangered creatures, you put money into the hands of a person who will stalk these creatures in their forest homes at night and kidnap them, pull their teeth out so that they can't bite you (which kills half of them), and then probably ship the creatures halfway around the world to be owned by people who don't know anything about them.

These are wild animals, and nocturnal. They only appear friendly because that is their instinctive response to abject fear.

I love how people think commenting on Youtube will do anything to help these little critters. It probably makes people want them more knowing there is controversy over having one lol
