This tutorial shows how to install ubuntu fully on a USB device, this requires at least 2gig usb device and will change it to a Linux format, download links for Mac OS X Linux format reader, install first then second:
Macfuse download: http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/downloads/detail?name=MacFUSE-2.0.3%2C2.dmg&...

Macfuse linux partition support: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuse-ext2/files/fuse-ext2/fuse-ext2-0.0.7/fus...

This will not boot on a MacBook Pro late 2007 with rEFIt but should boot with other applications and on a PC.

Ubuntu won't install on Fat32. And yes, you do need MacFuse.

  • ohhh ok...can you repeat that now using vocal signals preferably detectable by the human ear?

Don't use that language on my videos please, and I don't clean the Desktop often, I use it for YouTube video rendering lol.

Partitioning is a lot more risky on Windows. I've had a Hard Drive go corrupt when partitioning on Windows. Do a Google search for partitioning software, the default MicroSoft software to partition is very bad and doesn't work most of the time.

  • @VolatileTutorials

Do you mean that you are trying to do this with a Windows computer? Or install Windows on a Mac? Please give more detail when commenting, it's impossible to help people who give no detail.

  • Try searching "Repair Ubuntu install" in Google. There are some useful results that might fix the installations on a USB stick.

  • @generaldeejee

You could add a 1GB partition on the external hard drive or USB stick and restore a Ubuntu image to it, so you can use the LiveCD, and use another computer to backup all of the documents, music programs etc and use the Ubuntu partition to reinstall to the external hard drive again. But this tutorial is showing what to do with a Mac, so the USB stick install should work on other Macs because most Macs have similar hardware.

  • @macmaster4848 is there any way to fix the install for use with another computer if the computer you installed it breaks down? like using a repair CD or fix grub or so?

I cut a bit of the video that was unneeded, because the video was very long, and my upload speed is probably the worst in my country.
