Lou Gehrig's speech is included in the Friends 4 Captain Bob playlist, created in honor of Bob Monette. Like Lou Gehrig, Capt. Bob was Diagnosed 3 years ago with ALS, he has progressively lost the use of his legs. We have all found tremendous inspiration in the daily battles Bob faces, championing each hurdle in this journey. Unfortunately ALS demands more from it's patients & families then is humanly possible. As Captain Bob's neighbors, friends & supporters, we are here to help raise awareness, foster his miraculous spirit and help acquire the essential adaptive equipment necessary.

  • The best thing about sports mirrors the best things in life...perseverance, humility, class, and compassion. These are things that go beyond the stats and highlights. As great as he was, his friend Babe Ruth, took most of the spotlight. I think we all can relate to that on some level. Just keep chugging away. Be the best person you can be even if others don't appreciate it as much as you think they should. When the moment of truth comes, you'll be ready. That's what Lou Gehrig taught me.

  • How i wished i was born in this era.

  • 3 people are heartless and are morons.

  • gehrig was a real man.imagine making a speech like that in front of thousands of people, knowing that your probably going to die a painful death.he didn't whine or sulk,he was a man about it.i respect him and other that have that terrible disease.

  • @arivas713 im sorry buts thats a pathetic attitude, all things he saying now are still true, don't make excuses

  • where the U.S. doesn't have a monarchy (and thank goodness for that), the U.S. has baseball royalty like Lou Gehrig. As a Red Sox fan, it isn't even about teams. Baseball IS nostalgia.

  • My Dad, Lou Mc Hugh, worked the gun tub aft on the Armed Merchantman SS Lou Gehrig and sailed it from the ship yard to the Salerno landing in 1943. They used to call gunnery drill, afternoon "Batting Practice"...

  • @ohiostmarine29203 .......... This was a very touching speech, thats what he meant.
