When you get hit into shyguys or blocks like on Mushroom Kingdom 1 you get hitlag and the game lets you DI again to further alter the angle you're sent like you did for the attack or throw originally. Here, even though he went nearly straight up, by holding away when hitting the shyhuys, the angle kept changing more and more to the left.
