Well said by TwoThirds - this sort of thing isn't "the downfall of music". Statements like that are just stupid. If the effort to produce meaningful music and the difficulty of composing said music is still there, then why deny it?
I've been to NIN concerts where Trent has used giant versions of beat machines to custom tweak a bassline on the fly - notably, in Echoplex. If we're going to accept instruments that amplify music through electrical pickups we might as well embrace these also.
Just because a device has buttons on a grid doesn't mean it's ripping off the monome, lol. They were just the first guys to a really good idea. Monome is the most hardcore geeky device in this category. It's for the people who really know what they are doing. Therefore, not me :P
