Real kilts are formalwear. Utilikilts are for more casual use.

However, you are not allowed to wear either type of kilt unless you are at-least 50% Scottish. Fortunately, I am.

I'm kind of surprised that anyone from Austin wears a utilikilt. Austin is basically the San Francisco of the South. It's a city full of crazy liberal college students who know nothing of manliness. I can't imagine any of the wussy hippies there wearing something so manly.
