  • that's not fair how can u tell wich has the clean install without programs and wich one is the one being used for some time...?

  • Both of them have the same system, with all sony programs.

  • 既然要作比較當然要維持雙方其它條件趨近於平等,所以我使用相同的系統環境,都是剛完成安裝的狀況,這樣才能忠實呈現HDD與SSD之間的差異 -- Anybody can help to translate it?

  • so you pay £1000 for 10 seconds? OK thats reasonable

  • That was so worth the $500 for the SSD drive!

  • @UNIGO "for a fair test environment, i install xp all over before i do the experiment

  • @11nufc11 it's far from 1000£, it's more like 100£.

  • @UNIGO

As compared to the other conditions of course, to keep the two sides close to equal, so I use the same system environment, the situation is just to complete the installation, so as to faithfully present the difference between HDD and SSD

  • I wonder what would be faster Windows 7 on a SSD and Ubuntu 10.04 on a HDD

  • Idiots above with thumbs up are so stupid not to see the advantage of SSDs. Its not only boot times that increase. Its also the speed of applications that increase in speed. Compare and SSD to an HDD in load times for programs such as Microsoft Office and popular games such as World of Warcraft and you'll see that the SSD wipes the floor with the HDD, all the time. Windows 7 increases the speed of the SSD even more with TRIM support.

  • You meant to say "everything except storage capacity to cost ratio". A 1TB SSD costs over 2 grand. A comparable HDD is around $100. There is also the issue of limited write cycles on SSDs. HDDs may be more mechanically fragile, but the much cheaper price and the relatively stable function makes them a better purchase. If you're going for an SSD, keep it around 160GB and use it as an OS drive with a HDD to store your data. Unless you can afford a $5000 build and back up religiously.

  • I never had an HD die on me in 16 years, but I know people who weren't that lucky.
