Diving into the engine room of the wreck of the Numidia at north edge of Big Brother Island reef in the Red Sea. 12th June 2007. The wreck is at an extremely steep angle so we are swimming down as we swim towards stern - near end depth 28m, far end depth 42m - approx. Diving with AP Diving Inspiration close circuit rebreather (CCR) and Solus LED dive lights (www.ssp.ie).

  • nice to see what she looks like at that depth

  • It wasn't particularly deep. Our guide led us to an entry point in starboard side of wreck at about 20m, down thru some tight areas and then we were in the cavernous boiler room. As I said in clip description, the Numidia is lying down the front face of the reef at a steep angle and the near end of the boiler room was about 30m and the far end was about 45m.

  • never got down there current was too strong when i was last there

  • Current can be tricky. The boat has to be careful where they drop you. Drop short and you can't fight the current to get to the wreck, drop too far beyond and there's a danger you might get swept around the other side of the island. On the day I shot this video we did have to swim hard for a few minutes to make the wreck and get inside (where it was calm).

  • @Pattochan67

when i was there we able to moor almost right over the wrecks, the skipper said this was unheard of ! there were no currents at all on either brother, straight off the back of the boat and down to the wrecks !

hoping this special ocasion will repeat itself this year when im back !

  • Nice video! I was there one year ago, yes the boiler room is around 40m, the deepest part of the ship is resting at around 80m(77,7m) ;-) We had not too much time left to investigate the boiler room in detail, to keep the deco down. I made a video from the deep end of the ship, maybe I will upload it..
