We see these frequencies as these colors simply because that is how our brains interpret it. Also, it's not really down to speed. Frequency isn't really the same as speed. For example, bass frequencies don't travel any faster or slower than other frequencies.

  • good stuff

  • Yes. It is a good subject, a very cool subject. But perhaps there is only so much one could say about it. Anyway, ill look out for your next video on this area.

  • Could you please explain (if you know of course) WHY this affects colour. Why is purple/violet at the single Quanta end of the scale? That is, why is it not Green or Lilac? I know it is down to speed etc,, but WHY?

  • It's a very cool theory. A lot of logic behind the ideas.

The electromagnetic spectrum represents the different possible frequencies of the ripples. A radiowave, for example, doesn't necessarily have more photons than a gamma ray. The number of photons is determined by the amplitude of the wave (i.e. by the length of the arrows), not by the frequency of the vibrations. Radiowave photons are less energetic than gamma ray photons because of the lower frequency.

The energy of a single photon is proportional to the frequency of one the vibrational modes of the ripple. The probability of finding a photon at a particular point is proportional to the sum of the square of the lengths of the arrows at that point (in the classical theory this quantity was just the energy density of the field at that point). In addition, each photon carries an intrinsic angular momentum of 1ħ (h-bar is just Planck's constant divided by 2π).
