Infinity Ward's latest opus, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, hit late last year and TV and Lust's review is finally oscar mike! The team has crafted an incredibly fluid and immersive first person shooter that, while not without its flaws, is an enjoyable ride. Objectives can occasionally be unclear, and some areas are little more punishing gauntlets, but the attention to detail is amazing and the variety of gameplay mechanics is both impressive and well done.

Modern Warfare 2 has a strong multiplayer component. The co-op mode, Spec-Ops supports both local and online players, but unfortunately only covers specific missions, and is not campaign co-op. The competitive multiplayer mode is enormous and anyone who has played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will likely feel right at home. All others may feel overwhelmed by the depth of customization and the RPG-like elements, and the game doesn't really do much to accommodate newcomers (even the instruction booklet is less than 10 pages). There are some issues with the multiplayer, such as glitches and balancing and design choices, but it's a fun and addicting part of the package, and most people will be playing this for quite a while.

Modern Ware 2 saw a tsunami of hype prior to its launch and numerous of accolades since its release, and unfortunately I can't completely echo those sentiments. Part of it is because of the flaws throughout the game that hindered my enjoyment, but it's also because I'm admittedly not necessarily big on these realistic war shooters. Even still, Modern Warfare 2 has a lot of content and definitely has some very fun aspects. Shooter fans shouldn't miss this one.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was reviewed using the Xbox 360 version.

  • Maybe I've just been de-sensitized by playing so many M rated games but to me the No Russian mission wasn't gratuitously violent in my opinion, I've definitely seen worse in games.

Just look at all the dead bodies on the floor in No Russian, 95 percent of them have the exact same face and/or clothes.

The fact is, people do not buy games based on their level of violence to fuel their supposed "aggressive tendencies" and that is something people like Jack Thompson will never understand.

  • I agree with that, but I also think younger gamers play up their interest violence too much, which gives the impression that the game is impacting them more than it is. Does that make sense? Like, they'll be laughing and shouting about how cool it was to snipe someone's face. And usually they're probably well-adjusted kids. They just get super excited about violence for some reason, which isn't harming anyone, but worries their parents. I guess.

    Either way, Thompson sucks. :)

  • I think this is a franchise at it's peak... Special op's is my favourite element of the game. Campaign is solid.. like that you can do it in 7hrs, It doesn't out stay it's welcome. Also it's good to just finish a game!! Online is just totally brutal... the copters kinda get annoying!!!! I rate it highly... Presentation awesome! Controls perfect. Interesting to see your take on it Craig & I felt it somehow your brave to review it now at this later date!!! It's a well covered game.
  • Yeah, I liked the length too. Nice 7-8 hours or so, get that out of your system, and then hope online to get your replay value there. Perfect, in my opinion.

  • More games should have more than 2 player local co op

  • Fun game, a little frustrating with people spend 24/7 on this game... I'm only a level 51, but I don't care about my stats or anything. I play this game to play it. Not to care what others think about me or how well I'm compare to a hacked leader board system, and no lifers

  • this is the greatest online shooter ever

  • I got Modern Warfare Rflex for Wii and I keep getting killed by P60's in Wi-Fi..

    I HATE THAT GUN ;)

I can't wait to unlock it though! Great game.

  • los yanquis parencen todos bebes jajaja!

  • really enjoyed this game but i didnt get to into the online because im a halo freak

  • I agree....its a tech masterpiece on play mechanics...I really thought that Modern Warfare 2 would only be a slight improvement but I was blown away with the attention to detail

  • Wheres the multiplayer footage, ya jerk!?!?!?!

    lol jk

  • The only fps that has better controls than this for me is bioshock

  • I really like the game.. and I'm a weekend gamer.. I like the multiplayer, I picked it pretty fast up what maps and what stuff I need. If you play the game for more the 20 hours.. then you get a feeling what you need. but yeah, noobs not apply. I joust to be a clan gamer, for COD2 and some other games.. So I'm really into the first person shooters.
