Due to overwhelming demand (and my new Zoom Q3 video recorder) we put the Garden Spot on You Tube! Watch as we deftly record a weekly program to air on KOHI AM 1600 in St. Helens, Oregon. It's a high tech production that has delivered a quality show week after week for almost 18 years. The "Old KOHI Garden Spot" is aired Saturday morning at about 8:00 am. Chip Bubl and I do two 5 minute segments where we talk about local gardening issues and some of the questions he receives as the County Ag. Agent for Columbia County. I'm using the ZOOM Q3 to capture the video but the audio is just from the ZOOM's mike as there is no line input to capture the actual audio feed. We record the program audio on a SONY CDR-W33 using an AKG D140 E mike and a Behringer UB502 mixer. Chip delivers the CD to the station for air play. A short musical Intro and outgoing music is mixed from the SONY Mini Disc player. The music is usually some clip of my past bluegrass days. When I'm in Mexico we do the show via Skype from a script Chip emails to me. I add music to the recording as needed and email the show to Marty at KOHI. Crude but effective!
The ZOOM Q3 performed well considering the light. It was a cloudy day with little natural light. The audio is weak but the Camera was about 7 or 8 feet away. Unfortunately there's no way to direct record audio on the Q3. It's basically a so-so video recorder with very good mikes for audio recording. It will be interesting to use it in Mexico to record some local talent.
