@gilmoreguy Wow, I didn't know that! 14' doesn't seem like much by today's standards. Nonetheless, Loch Ness looks like a very cool coaster with that unique track layout. I also remember before they built Shock Wave, the biggest coaster at SFOT was The Big Bend (removed in '78) and it had 2 inclined spiral lifts. Not the fastest or scariest ride ever built, but it was damn fun! Check out PARKTIMESdotCOM for Big Bend pics/info and the entire history of SFOT. Very interesting stuff!

@jddrock Not only was it the biggest coaster at Six Flags the day it opened, it was the tallest coaster in the world. It held that record for 4 weeks, until the Loch Ness Monster opened at Busch Gardens Virginia with a lift that was 14 feet higher.

This ride looks fun until after the second loop, it should have just had a camel hump & then turned back to the station.

i was looking at my hair gel this morning and realised that it was made by Schwarzkopf

Still looks intimidating and covers alot of ground, must have been considered a beast in its day.

@fourquarter FYI - Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain opened three weeks before Turn Of The Century at Marriotts Great America & Tidal Wave opened in 1978. White Lightnin' at Carowinds, Greased Lightnin' at California's Great America & King Kobra at Kings Dominion were the first shuttle loop coasters & all of them opened a year before Tidal Wave.

I love a good old Schwarzkopf! :D

@liljdub08 Yes & that it loops.
Shockwave opened first and was the first to have back to back loops or two in one ride.

@Coasternator Shock Wave opened on April, 22 1978, but Mind Bender opened three weeks earlier on March, 31 1978. Mind Bender has two loops, but not back-to-back.

I thought Shock Wave is a stand up roller coaster??

@Chuckscott There's the Shockwave (spelling is one word) standup coasters at Kings Dominion & Drayton Manor & the Shockwave standup coaster that was at Six Flags Magic Mountain that moved to Six Flags Great Adventure, but no longer exists. Then there was the Shockwave Arrow custom looper that was at Six Flags Great America from 1988 until 2002. There's also a Pinfari coaster at Brean Leisure Park called Shock Wave (spelling is two words like this one). Lots of them around. ;D
