  • What happens if you use Glycine instead of glycerine? i've tried it with anti-freeze, but of course that isn't pure Glycine. It formed a lot of smoke but there were no blue flames, and it couldn't ignite thermite.

  • I've heard that anti-freeze will also do the trick. Maybe it didn't work because of the wrong ratio of anti-freeze vs KMnO4, I have tried several times too before shooting. The flame is hard to light up in windy environment too(especially if you do it outdoors, which you should). I don't know if the shape of the container will affect the result.

P.S. Are you sure the active ingredient of anti-freeze is glycine?

P.S.2. The blue flame might be caused by the burning of both KMnO4 and plastic cup.

  • Glycine is an amino acid, and will not react with KMnO4. Antifreeze is ethylene glycol (1,2 ethanediol), and should react in the same way as glycerol (1,2,3 propanetriol). Commercial antifreeze is likely to contain a lot of water, methanol and misc. reducing the effectiveness.

  • Yes, that's exactly what I thought.

  • what the hell is KMnO4

  • KMnO4 is the chemical formula of potassium permanganate

  • Incredible :)

  • holy-asshole shit brain:> arabs are not terrorists, it is what your media tells you. In the arab world, you will find people of all nationalities (alot of british and americans) living with us in peace and happiness. It is you ill-mannered, stupid dumb people who continue making these stereotypes. All i can say about you is that you judge people without proof and consider everyone who is not your neighbour to be usama bin laden.

  • Holy-Terrorist:>mmm, not oxyde, oxide in

english language, annd the other oxidizer

    using, is cupper oxide(CuO)

    and website info in

    wikipedia,org

  • Holy-Terrorist:>Thermite reaction is,

    The aluminium(Al) powder with

other oxydizer, habitually is iron oxyde(Fe2O3)

    For the reaction

    Fe2O3 + Al2 = Al2O3 + Fe2

and veery hot in the 2,500°C

    me language is french *=*

  • Awesome...

  • yes

  • هلا

    reasearch thermite reaction

  • it is hot enough to ignite Thermit
