Basic patch whipped up in 5 minutes that uses formant synthesis to make a voice saying yo yo yo yo (or more like yoaw yoaw yoaw when you speed it down).

This is one of my first MAX videos, and this is done in max 4. I'm going to showcase a bunch of cool max 5 patches soon if I find a way to get them on to my computer.

  • Wow. That's some skilled synthesis there.

  • Thanks, it's not really much. I'm going to put up a video of a patch I made that is a formant synthesizer with several vowel settings and MIDI Control + vibrato and some other things, in MAX 5.0. I've only been into max for a few months so I'm still practicing, but I really like it.

  • I initially tried it with bandlimited noise instead of the sawtooth, but it doesn't work very well. :P The filters have to be set in bandpass mode, with a fairly high resonance but not too high as to go into self-resonance. In the end you just take away all other harmonics of the sawtooth except the ones that make up each vowel.

Consonants I think are harder to make as they involve some time of noise bursts or envelopes.

  • Very cool!!! I love this kind of stuff! :)

    All the best,
