Lt. Governor Tim Murrary unexpectedly closed a meeting by the Governor's Council without taking an anticpated vote on the nomination of Laurie Macleod to the Palmer District Court. Based on councilor's pre-meeting statements the nomination was expected to be defeated 4-3. One councilor was absent. After gaveling the meeting to a close, a surprised Councilor Marilyn Devaney addressed the nearly empty council chamber with a statement on why she opposed the nomination and why Councilor Merrigan should recuse himself from voting. MacLeod's nomination was opposed by The Fatherhood Coalition, www.fatherhoodcoalition.org (617 SAD-DADS).
