This scene scared me as a kid, and its dark tone still gets to me at 20 years of age.
For me, the buildup to the Marleys' reveal got me on edge, and even though Statler and Waldorf are cracking jokes as usual, their quips have a malicious edge to them that makes me shiver a bit.
It's a nice change of pace, considering this is marketed as a kids' film. This movie has stayed one of my favorites, largely on account of this scene and the Ghost of Christmas Future scene, which is also quite dark.

Hecklers: the two that should be in every movie.
"Oh look, it's Ebenezer Scrooge!"
"Looking older and more wicked than ever."
"I knew he wouldn't disappoint us."
