A pleasant dinner between James Ellroy, author of The Black Dahlia (1987), LA Times writer Larry Harnisch and LAPD Homicide detectives (oh yeah, Nick Nolte wandered in too).
Larry Harnisch exposes his theory on the Elizabeth Short murder and the possible killer.

  • @57slingblade It's gallows humour. Given the nature of their work, if they didn't desensitize themselves to it, the job would send them insane. What they actually do is remarkable. Try to see the bigger picture.

  • These men are missing the point: the murder WAS the sex. The murderer was not a normal man with normal sexual tastes who became enraged because Short allegedly teased him - this was a dangerous deviant who displayed her corpse to lash out at society. In all likelihood, the murderer washed the body not only to eradicate evidence, but to eradicate ejaculate. Whether she teased him or not, he very likely had little desire for and/or could not perform with a live woman.

  • I agree that Beth was a hooker and unfortunately came across the wrong guy whom would slay her to death.

  • All I know, from everything that I've studied about killers & how they choose their victims, I feel that it was someone who knew her. Maybe not very well, but enough that she would've trusted them to go somewhere secluded. She was a woman who lived by her wits, so she would've gone with a man just so she could have a meal that night. And the fact that he cut her face, shows something personal.

  • @SuperStarsNStripes I think so too, it probably was someone who had a lot of money, maybe influential in Hollywood.

  • @sumthingelse19 his presence spoiled it!

  • Nick Nolte looks like the killer lol

  • Elizabeth Short was physically unable to have sex; her sexual organs were undeveloped, the passage in the vagina was too short to be penetrated.

  • @lesterclaypool1 He got it anyhow. Who are you, his press agent?

  • @CplMac1944

Falling asleep with a cigarette and burning down a jerry built roach motel is not the same as Smith having "Set fire to his house and died".

That's a pretty elaborate and uncertain way to off ones self.

  • I've narrowed it down to 3 people

    Dr. Bayley

    Dr. Hodel

    Arnold Smith

Now Mr. Smith gave some personal effects to the LAPD. But before it could be identified he set fire to his house and died. Was he hiding something?
