@jad1025 Well Narayan was not a village Indian- is Brahman and was acting great by the actor.
About the actress.. Lisa Ray acting marvelous. She lived 2 months in a widows ashram in India and not as a tourist.. She has same life with them to feel how it is and to act that role.

Can everyone stop all this rubbish about some Indians being too dark or too fair, it's like depriving someone of his her identity just because they don't conform with your prejudices..

Very sad story, but it's the reality for some Indian women...I feel so sorry for them...Great movie! Gorgeous actress and handsome actor. Loved Chuyia's acting. Excelent soundtrack too. Love it all!!!!

thats probably because Deepa Mehta may have thought this would bring the movie in to the mainstream. But it did not.. the movie is for the creme level of people. Very dramatic and of course I support your comment as well..
