Peace March for Tibet 2009 - Meeting with UN officials
40 exiled Tibetans have successfully completed a 9-day peace march from Berne to Geneva, a distance of 160km or 100 miles. The peace marchers arrived safely and without major injuries in front of the UN Headquarter in Geneva where they were enthusiastically welcomed by the Tibetan community. Their arrival marked the beginning of a rally in front of the UN building, where the 11th regular session of the human rights council (2-19 June 2009) started. The demonstrators recited prayers and shouted slogans. The rally was broadcasted by local TV channels and radio stations. A delegation of the Tibetan Community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein was received by representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Her Excellency Navanethem Pillay. The meeting took place at the OHCHR Headquarter Palais Wilson, Geneva and ended after 45 minutes of constructive talks. A memorandum was read and handed over to the UN officials at this occasion.
Great work!
