  • So genuine.

  • @kalpubinc If you DIG Carmen, listen to 'At Ratso's vol 2".She does a brilliant version of a Bill Wither's song "Paint Your Pretty Picture With A Song".& a slow version of "Like A Lover",which is stunning.I really think that Carmen was the female version Of Sinatra,in the way she could interpret a lyric. She was the BEST.

  • OMG, she recorded a cough at the beginning!!

  • "norman we're only gonna do one chorus of this tune" haha brilliant

  • Very subtle, very intelligent, stunning.

  • Love that's only slightly soiled...!!! Carmen truly delivered that line so convincingly, LOL.

  • @Rickriquinho Actually, I think that Carmen McRae's version really probes the true meaning behind the lyric that surrounds the songs entirety. Listen to early versions of the song from the '30s (The Three Girlfriends sung this tune with a similar pathos) and then come back to Carmen's rendition. I've never heard this evergreen played so slow and yet so powerfully. McRae was the woman! I love O'Day's stuff and think that her scats are bar none, but for the paths of this standard, it's Carmen.

  • It just doesn't get any better then that!!!!

  • Very impressive and original version. Search for Anitas (ODay) that is also original but more swinging.
