Aikido vs aikido

If you aren't practicing your art on someone who is actively trying to resist your techniques, then it will likely not work against an opponent who is actively trying to resist. That guy in the karate gi is just going along for the ride, allowing Mr. Aikido to look good.

@Sungawd69 there is no guy in the karate gi there is only the ukei and stei, if the ukei wasnt a practitioner of aikido he would be severely injured during the technique demonstrations, yes this is a demonstration fight any practitioner can tell and its not as easy as going along for the ride you must first learn how to properly apply ukemi as to not break anything or get injured he is definately not just trying to make mr. aikido to look good

The one fight I got into in school back in the day I did something very similar to a bully and his 2 bumm buddies who attacked me after school and everyone saw, the last guy I threw a hip throw in though, he broke his leg on landing, my friends and I never got bullied after that and the islander boys seems to fear us as they saw what I did with the weight of the bullies:) I love martial arts!! :D Great video mate!

Steven Segal. Is there a diff between aikido and haikido. Ive always heard of it with the ladder.

@Sungawd69 The guy in the karate gi is also an Aikidoka. And the purpose of "going along" is to understand motion and ki flow. As it is in Tai Chi. The only reason guys like you comment like this is because you can't see how it applies to real combat - which fyi Aikido teaches to avoid in the first place. Not all MA's are made for fighting you know. If u want to go size up your manlines go to an MMA gym, guys like you would fit right in.

@Shawnbfromsd BJJ, Judo, Catch-as-catch-can, etc. were all designed with the same focus on effectiveness and the "submit or be broken" philosophy you ascribe to Aikido. However, if you have ever watched their competition sparring or an MMA event, it is clear that simply locking in the technique cleanly does not automatically result in a break/submission. Technique is not everything. Timing, rhythm, transitional flow, etc. can only be developed through free sparring.

@Sungawd69 I agree with rlfischbeck. He is letting himself get thrown around because if he does try to resist it WILL break bones. That's how aikido was designed. Submit or be broken.

This is staged, if he fights in the cage he is doomed

if people learn karate or anything
they never attack people like that
it's hard to make submition to people who learn matrial art

@Sungawd69 resistance would result in pain and maybe ruin joints, thus ukemi is self defense as well. A gi is a gi....

ok it looks cool and im sure its difficult but its probably near impossible against real fighting skills.
excellent technique!
