Sydney City2Surf 2011

On 14 August 2011 I participated in the Sydney City2Surf for my siblings - Venessa & Vincent.

In March 2011 my sister, Venessa, found out that after six years in remission her leukaemia had returned. This is not the first time a member of my family has battled with leukaemia. As a child my brother, Vincent, was diagnosed with leukaemia and at the age of 8 he passed away.

Last year Venessa ran the City 2 Surf in just over 1.5 hours. This year she was unable to run as she was in hospital waiting to see signs that a recent bone marrow transplant has been successful.

Everyone who knows me is aware that I have never been one to lead an active life - I confess that I "don't know how to run". Completing the 14km course was definitely a challenge for me, but it will never be as big a challenge as those that many people around the world face as they battle against leukaemia.

In participating in the City2Surf I raised an amazing $12,906.80 for the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia, coming in as the third highest individual fundraiser for the event. Thank you so much to everyone who supported me and my sister. To all those fighting against leukaemia, stay strong and never give up.
