Sirens

على الرغم من جمالها على الورق، والجهد الكبير في تنفيذها، وتحمس نجوم كبار لها، إلا أن بعض الأفلام تواجه نوعا من الحظ العاثر، الذي يحد من نجاحها.
وربما جاء حظ فيلم "حوريات البحر" الذي لعب بطوته النجم البريطاني هيو جرانت، أمام تارا فيتزجيرالد، العاثر من موضوعه شديد الحساسية، ما بين الغواية والتدين، أو المواجهة بين الغريزة وبين الالتزام الأخلاقي. ومع النعومة المرهفة في تناول مسائل العري برؤية بصرية تشبه رسم الموديلات العارية في الفنون التشكيلية، والتشابه الخافت بين أحداثه وبين رائعة أناتول فرانس العبقرية "تاييس"* مع فارق حقيقي لصالح الرواية، إلا أن الفيلم الذي أنتج عام 1993 تم تناوله كمجرد "فيلم كوميدي"، الأمر الذي أثر بالتأكيد على نجاحه السوقي في شباك التذاكر. فعلى غرار الراهب بافنوس، الذي ترك صومعته في قوص في أقصى صعيد مصر لأجل هداية تاييس الراقصة التي تغوي العشرات في الإسكندرية، لتهتدي هي ويضل، يغادر قس شاب وزوجته إنجلترا إلى أستراليا، بناء على طلب من المطران لزيارة فنان يعيش في مستعمرة خاصة جعلها مرتعا للديونيزيوسية، من خلال مشروع فني أطلق عليه اسم "فينوس المصلوبة" ويطلب إليه أن ينسحب طوعا من إتمام هذا المشروع "الضال".
وفيما يرى القس نفسه تقدميا في فهمه للفن والحياة، إلا أنه يجد نفسه في أجواء أخلاقية صادمة، يعيشها الرسام وزوجته، الموديلات الثلاث اللائي يعيشن في تركته. كما تجد زوجة القس نفسها في صراع مرير بين غرائزها التي تتفتح شيئا فشيئا، وبين محاولاتها البائسة للبقاء مخلصة لزوجها.

Yet on their return to the desert he becomes fascinated with her former life. She enters a convent to repent of her sins. He cannot forget the pull of her famous beauty, and becomes confused about the values of life. Later, as she is dying and can only see heaven opening before her, he comes to her side and tells her that her faith is an illusion, and that he loves her

To anyone:

At aproximately 47:30, the girls are singing a version of "Mairie's Wedding" in the background, but they have changed the lyrics somewhat..instead of "myrtle green and bracken brown", they seem to be singing [something] up and knickers down"..can anyone help me with this? I can NOT find these alternate lyrics anywhere online.

You appear to be reviewing this film. I cannot understand why a Muslim would be interested in this as surely it's banned for you to watch. Take this from it, the clergyman fails in his attempt to persuade the artist from exhibiting nudes. He doesn't go around screaming for the artist's death and the women to be stoned. He goes quietly away with his wife, having made his argument. How civilised and peace full is the Anglican church, truly the religion of peace and NOT Islam!
