The instruments must be baroque style.

That 'natural' organic raw quality of the period instruments, coupled with the lower tuning, technical precision and clarity, dynamic emotional expression of this orchestra and soloists performance FUCKING AWESOME!

this is E flat major......

@TheDeadlyHollow : Nope, this is E-Major. This is a Baroque orchestra tuned at a'=415, so the violin's strings, for example, are approximately tuned like E-flat, G-flat, D-flat, G-flat. The Baroque era had many different tunings. 415 was common in Germany, while 440 (a.k.a. "modern" tuning) was popular in most parts of Italy, 392 (instruments tuned approximately a whole step down from modern tuning) was popular in France in the Baroque era, and 460 tuning was popular in Venice.

@animeviolalord 460!? damn could imagine having to sing at that? i think 440 is what we commonly use these days, or have been at least until peopel started using the tunings that were used in the specific period. i remember hearing something about how the higher tuning is ruining voices especially baritones because its really fucks up the passagio. have you heard anything of that sort?

@moghedien13: I don't really know. I don't know any ensembles or orchestras that actually perform at 460 tuning...but I would hate to sing that high! :O I don't know how they did it back then!
