In this lecture I present the results of the Seatlle Study of Near Death Experiences in Children. This was the first case control prospective study of near death experiences ever done. Pim van Lommel MD later did a more comprehensive prospective study of near death experiences in adults. Our study was a small one. It was gratifying that it was replicated and validated by Dr. van Lommel's full scale study in adults, ultimately published in the Lancet in 2001. Our study was published in the American Medical Association's Pediatric Journal AJDC in 1986.
In this lecture, I also present the experimental evidence from Jim Whinnery MD that near death experiences represent the last moments of life.
The research of Jim Whinnery MD, Pim van Lommel MD and my own represents the heart of the scientific evidence that when we die, we are awake, aware of other realites, and have the perception of an expanded sense of consciousness outside our physical body. The last few moments of life, for most of us, will be joyous and spiritual.
I also present in this lecture one of the first efforts I am aware of that attempts to explain the near death experience from a scientific perspective. It is a new theory of consciousness based on Information Theory and the Turing Model as applied to consciousness. (Complex systems theory) And I do it in a way that anyone can understand, using the concept of the ecosystem as a metaphor for a new way of understanding consciousness.
Terrific research! I applaud you for everyday you invested so that the great whole will benefit.
