Powerful Solar Storm Sets Off Amazing Northern Lights Show

Lights Over Lapland photographer Chad Blakley captured this amazing view of the aurora borealis in Sweden on January 24th, 2012. The January 23rd solar flare and ensuing coronal mass ejection are the 'lighting engineers' of this incredible display.

Northern lights are the most spectacular thing to ever watch. My dad would always make us go outside to watch them whenever they happened. The colors and the sound they made. Yes, they make a sort of electric crackling sound. I haven't seen any since I was about 10, because we moved from that part of Sweden to a much more southern part, and we didn't see them anymore. I would love to see them again. Ah, wishful thinking.

It will come swiftly like a thief in the night. Remember? Heck, maybe even before Dec 21 2012. The myans may be correct bout lots, but God wouldn't give them THAT foresite.
