In this week's The Listening Post, Richard Gizbert puts Azerbaijan under the spotlight. Freedom of the press in the former Soviet republic has not moved on since pre-perestroika days. And with presidential elections on the horizon the government is cracking down further on journalists who refuse to tow the party line.

  • Azerbaijan = stolen Iranian land. The word 'Azerbaijan,' 'Baku' and the original language of Azeris was PERSIAN. Aliyev is a KGB-produced puppet that now works for Israel. All the oil money goes into the pockets of the autocrats - they are endangering every Azeri. At some point Russia or Iran may take military measures. It's better to oust Aliyev - do it quickly.

  • There is no truth in Azerbaijan for natives. The truth here in the hands of a certain group of "people" who dispose of it for their own purposes and put there own price.

each person in Baku must has someone "from above", if he wants to move

  • в Азербайджане нет правды для народа. Правда здесь в руках определенной группы "людей", которые распоряжаются ею в своих целях и сами ставят ей цену.

Здесь обязательно у каждого человека должен быть кто-то "сверху", если он хочет продвигаться

  • Azerbaijan people have very bad live

Our average salary of $ 100 per month

People, there prevails - a bribe, abuse people, police beat up people. No freedom of speech.

  • There are salaries of teachers and doctors $ 150 a month in Baku. Everywhere demand a bribe. Oil money we do not see. For Decent people in Azerbaijan, life is hard

  • vot tak ebite drug druga. Da zdravstvuet Azerbashi!!!

  • Yes that was bad time. But like you can see now and at our neighbours, Armenia - Forpost of Russia with Russian millitary bases in the country, 2 million citizens escaped Armenia in 2008, Georgia is not better also. So if Azerbaijan is currupted and bad then what about our neighbours? They dont exsist then LOL.
