There are a lot of stories of where the first one was built, and who designed it. In eastern ND and MN there a few still around, I rebuilt a model that was made in 1958, it was the last of many designs built by a man known as Vincent. Aero Sled is the proper name for these machines, Aero from aircraft engine and pusher propeller and Sled from the sliding by the ski's along the suface of the snow.

Great video. The old radial engine sounds good. I have a snow Plane here in Kansas that I took to Minnesota one Feb. & drove it on a frozen lake. If you search "Isetta snow plane" on U-Tube you can watch my video.

@squashmoen Not sure where you got your info but, these contraptions were actually invented and built in the town I live in. They were contrived by the Wing family and produced by the Wing garage the family owned auto delership here in St.Ignace. They aactually had a contract with the U.S. government and made some of these for the military. They were infact called airsleds, but Im sure as the idea caught on in other areas and up in Canada the device probably took on several differnt names.

@454wizbang, That was before my time. The one I rode in was during the 60's. Can't remember who owned it. I thought it was a lot of fun to ride in tho. Perhaps the guys who made them are no longer around and didn't pass on the know-how to make 'em.

@tigergold999 go on youtube and search wing aero sleighs, there is footage of airsled's and coyote hunting on Drummond, may be the very sled you rode in...

I remember when I was a kid living in DeTour somebody had one of these and I was lucky enough to go for a ride in it. Whoa!! That thing hauled ass!! Does anyone still make these? Brings back memories that's for sure!
