  • Hi Frieda, You're right, the nutrients produced by the fish does slow down during the winter, and I have been supplementing with Seasol, powerfeed and the odd urination in the sump :). Fish growth has slowed as well. There is quite a difference in fish size after 15 months of growing out from fingerlings.

No great problem with bacteria in summer, perhaps because the tanks are clean due having been designed using the Chop system.

  • Yes. Silver Perch.

  • are you using any kind of filtering system for the water? the fish tanks look so clean.

  • There is no filtering system apart from the plant beds where the roots act as a filter for the water.

One thing not explained in the video is that inside each fish tank is a pipe running down to the bottom of the tank. The overflow is actually at the top of the pipe and as the water travels to the plant beds it pulls waste material off the bottom of the fish tanks in a venturi effect.

In the year that this system has been operating, the water remains clear with no tank cleaning whatsoever.

  • nice work mate keep it up..bet ya cant wait for the fist fish and salad meal..

  • Just wondering how your set-up is running in general now over the winter and how your fish are going with cooler weather. Do you need to supplement plants with Seasol because fish growth (and therefore fish waste) slows and is supplying less to plants? Also do you have any bacterial problems with fish in warmer months? Thanks...Frieda

  • What fish are you using? Silver Perch?
