I always been a fan of malmsteen but lately his albums are alright and doesn't play as cleanly as he use too. But Paul gilbert on the other hand even with age still plays crazy clean. I just don't like his tone(subjective opinion) but then again his technical abilities make up for that.

Personally, I liked his tone better with Laney amps. That being said, Paul could plug his guitar into a frogs ass and sound killer.
