To tell you more, I have listened and compared both the versions of Mohammed Rafi's song over the internet several times and I have come to realize that there is more life and continuity in his voice in the song in the movie than in his live performance with Naushad Sahib. His voice in the latter song is submissive and that depth is missing..Even in the song Meri Kahani Bhulnewale there is so much glorious tragedy in his voice from the movie that it is not in the song in his live performance.
Furthermore. It was earllier decided to cast Dilip Kumar instead of Bharat Bhushan. But Dilip Kumar declined to act in the movie because he did not want to act opposite Meena Kumari who according to him was an amateur. It is so wonderful that Bharat Bhushan's acting was extremely good and he suited very well for the role of Baiju as he is the most suitable actor for poetic roles. He was magnificent in Mirza Ghalib, Barsaa ki Raat. He beat Nasiruddin Shah in acting in the remake of Mirza Ghalib.
I would also like to add something more to what I have written underneath. I have heard live performances on Utube of the three of my most favourite songs.O'Duniya ke Rakhwale from the movie Baiju Bawara, Meri kahani Bhulnewale from the movie Deedar and,Suhani Raat dhal chuki from the movie Dulari Mohd.Rafi's live performances with Naushad Sahib. None of his perfomances were as good as he sang in the movies. In live performances his voice breaks at certain intervals if you listen attentively.
I saw Baiju Bawra in the year 1952. I remember all the songs of the movie when I was only twelve years old. I was too touched by the music at that time.Since then Naushad Sahib has been my most favourite music director. I fully well remember that neither Mohd.Rafi is alive, nor Naushad Sahib and nor even Shakeel Badayuni. I just came across the live recording of this song only yesterday and I wrote best what I thought.to be. There is nothing derogatory I have written about anyone.
